2020 Vision

Despite this recent pandemic, I still believe 2020 is our year. I still believe 2020 is our year. America has had two presidential primaries in a row with rival-worthy female candidates. Powerful men are finally facing the consequences of their actions. Uncomfortable conversations about consent, gender identity and race are at the forefront of public conversation. 

And now, the Earth has stood still. As much as we’ve ever seen in our lifetimes, anyway. It wasn’t an alien invasion, ebola, a zombie apocalypse or anything else our imaginations dreamed of. It was a flu. Yes, a deadly flu. But nothing nearly as dangerous as we thought would be necessary to cause us to be still. 

In the face of the Coronavirus, we’re learning so much about each other. Like when Americans are scared, they stock up on toilet paper and water. And if you put Italians on lockdown, they’ll sing out of windows to each other. But the best part is that we’ve been given the gift of reflecting on our own lives.

You now have the time, space and opportunity to look at your life from a new perspective. Do you like what you see? If you’re scared, now is a great time to start building a life around you that feels safe. If you’re anxious about the future, now is a great time to learn how to appreciate the present. If you’re sick, now is a great time to lean into faith. I’m confident that this unprecedented event will lead to lessons learned across the globe. 

For example, I’ve learned I can always find a way to over-schedule myself, even when facing a potential apocalypse. I’ve known this about myself for awhile. Hopefully a pandemic will help this lesson finally sink in.
