BSP: Civics Edition
During my Excellent Spiritual Adventure, I stayed with my aunt in Las Vegas. When I pulled up to her house, I couldn’t help but notice the giant flag draped across the window that reads, “Nevada for Trump”. I wasn’t surprised. My aunt, my father and their brothers have been very vocal in their support of his presidency. Back in 2021, both the black and white sides of my family came together for a conversation about unity and civility in America.
Even though that event seemed to go well, the aftermath has been messy. I’ve continued to do my best to learn, grow, and advocate for unity among people with different political beliefs. My family has served as the perfect place to practice this intention. During my visit, my aunt invited me to a discussion group of politically-active Trump supporters in Nevada.
I showed up with an open mind and I’m grateful to say that I think that everyone experienced a positive shift. My presence helped open the discussion of inclusivity of LGBT+ and people of the global majority in the Republican Party. I experienced in an opportunity to expand my own idea of inclusivity while submerging myself in an environment with people who think differently than I do.
Just a week earlier, Spirit Uncensored launched a spinoff of the Badass Spiritual Playground called, “BSP: Civics Edition”. Despite the name, this has truly been an inspirational way to start the day. At the April 17th event, Derek Hernandez-Rubi, a facilitator for the space, reminded us that “We’re not as limited as our fear would like to make us think.”
In the April 24th event, Derek said, “It takes a village to raise our inner child.” Each Badass Spiritual Playground is designed to serve as that village. This is a brave, uncensored, virtual playground for people of all ages, gender expressions, sexual orientations, and belief systems. Both events have one core intention: to change the world—for good.
The Spiritual Playgrounds are one hour. We meet on Tuesdays at 5p PT / 6p MT / 7p CT / 8p ET and the BSP: Civics Edition meets on Wednesdays at 8:30a PT / 9:30a MT / 10:30a CT / 11:30a ET. Participants are invited to show up completely authentically.
We have incorporated a ritual of selecting a guest DJ to play a song to open each event. Participants are also welcome to keep their cameras and microphones off and just listen. Or you may want to bring your full badass personality to the table and tell us about yourself! Whether you’re on the go, cooking dinner, or playing games on your phone…all expressions and ways of being are welcome!
